Welcome to Victoria Sanchez De Alba's MWOY Fundraising Page!

Por Vida Juntos We Can Beat Cancer

Jun 30, 2017

Dear Friends!

As my fundraising campaign concluded on June 3rd  at the Grand Finale Gala to see who raised more money to win The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society San Francisco Man & Woman of the Year (LLS MWOY), the official  fundraisng to fund a cancer research grant continues until the end of June. I have learned so much during this endeavor. My campaign slogan says it all, "Por Vida Juntos We Can Beat Cancer / “Together for Life We Can Beat Cancer.”

It has been an honor to be nominated LLS SF MWOY, as my Candidate campaign is the first in the U.S. to put the spotlight on pesticide-related cancers, specifically on farmworkers who are on the “front lines” to put food on our tables. Few are offered this opportunity, and I am honored to be able to give a voice to farmworkers exposed to pesticides, its impact, and for the future of cancer research.

My mission is to tell the world that pesticides affect all of us, especially people exposed while working in agricultural fields are at a higher risk of getting cancer1.  This is a personal issue for me because in 2002,  I lost my father, Sebastian Sanchez, who worked in the Salinas Valley agricultural fields to non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and I’m very excited to have been given the opportunity to directly fund a research grant in his honor.

My goal is to raise $50,000; the cost of funding a research lab for one year. The funds raised will go for research to benefit non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer that is associated with pesticide exposure2,3.

Did you know that blood cancers are the 3rd largest cancer killer in the U.S., and the largest pediatric cancer killer? Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer, and every nine minutes someone dies from a blood cancer. As a candidate, we honor the lives of two local blood cancer survivors who are now cancer free, Nomi (13) & James (17). These children are alive and living their dreams because of the research that LLS has funded – research that isn’t possible without your help.

In essence, I am very proud to be involved with a very worthy cause! LLS is the leading source of free, specialized blood cancer information, education and support for patients, survivors, families and healthcare professionals. The organization provides assistance to those who find it difficult to afford drug co-pays or health insurance premiums.  For Patient Access information and resources, visit www.lls.org/diseaseinformation.

I ask that you please consider making a tax-deductible contribute today of $50 - $100; whatever you can afford helps. You can donate by credit card (go to: http://bit.ly/vsda2017)  or check (LLS, 101 Montgomery Street, Suite 750, San Francisco, CA  94104  ATTN: Molly Diedrich). In notes, please mention: (Victoria S. De Alba) when making your gift so that we can credit your gift to our research project.

I would greatly appreciate your support.Working together, and through contributions from people and institutions from across the nation and all walks of life, we can raise awareness and help give hope to patients and their families.

Thank you and Warmest Regards,

 -Victoria Sanchez De Alba
