Welcome to Brian D. Williams' LLS MWOY Page!

In support of my LLS Man of the Year campaign

Mar 11, 2018

Each year the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign, and I was honored to join this year’s campaign as a candidate. My wife Lisa has also joined the campaign as my Fundraising Team Captain. We are asking for your personal support of LLS’s mission to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. LLS is saving lives, not someday, but today.

When I received the diagnosis in December 2015, that I had Acute Myeloid Leukemia, it was quite a surprise. I had a series of seemingly minor ailments during the summer and fall of 2015. I also felt tired much of the time. I had no reason to think "cancer", since I had no direct family history. Leading up to the diagnosis, I saw several different doctors to treat my ailments, but it took one doctor to run the right blood test to determine what was wrong. I was immediately admitted to Henry Ford hospital, right before Christmas. My treatment plan included three rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. I spent a total of 66 days in the hospital and 15 months away from work.

Today, I am CANCER FREE. Every day I open my eyes, I celebrate how I have been given a new perspective on life and family. I feel blessed that I will be able to spend future Christmases with my family. We are reaching out to the many friends, co-workers, colleagues, Fraternity brothers, Sorority sisters, and Church-family, all of whom prayed for me and our family during my battle and asking them to support LLS through my campaign.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

During a 10-week period – from March 21 to June 2, our goal is to raise over $50,000 which will go directly to LLS to support its researchers in finding treatments that save lives. Since 1949 LLS has been on the forefront of blood cancer advances such as chemotherapies and stem cell transplantation leading the way to the targeted therapies and immunotherapies that are saving thousands of lives today. Right here in Michigan, there are currently 11 research projects being funded by LLS at the University of Michigan with a total investment last year of $7.4 million.

Please reach out to others you know and ask them to do the same. I have found that so many of the people I talk with have a connection to blood cancer and want to get involved. Many companies have a matching gift program that will match your donation – please check with your company to see if they have this program.

I ask that you prayerfully consider this request for a financial contribution. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
