Welcome to Richard Glover's MWOY Fundraising Page!

Apr 27, 2017

My name is Richard W. Glover,

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign for the 2017 LLS Man of the Year campaign. I am part of a team working to raise as much as possible in a 10-week period. Every dollar I raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most votes/raises the most money is named the Man or Woman of the Year.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is committed to finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for all blood cancer patients. In fact, LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to research of blood cancers and improving the quality of life of patients that suffer from this affliction and their families, and honoring the families of those that have lost loved ones to this horrible disease. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and is responsible for providing free information and support services, and is the voice and advocate for all blood cancer patients seeking access to quality, affordable, coordinated care.

Did you know…? More than 1.2 million people in the United States are living with, or are in remission from a blood cancer. An estimated 20,000 people in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area are living with, or are in remission from leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Approximately every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. To date, LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research, and in Maryland and Virginia alone, LLS has commitments totaling more than $5.6 million in research grants. Where does that money go? Locally, 611 patients in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia receive $1.37 million in co-pay assistance to help offset the cost of expenses related to cancer treatment. Nationally, $41.8 million was distributed to help patients with their co-pays. In fiscal year 2015, $.74 of every dollar spent was devoted to research, patient services, education, and advocacy.

Over the last decade, I have committed my life to raising funds to help many curable and incurable diseases.  Yet, as a nominee for the LLS Man of the Year Campaign for 2017, I am able to honor the friends and families that I know that have had loved ones that are currently living with leukemia or who have lost the fight of blood cancer.  I dedicate my campaign this year to raise money in honor of my friend and confidante William Young, Jr.  William was a son, brother, friend, godfather, and mentor.  All who were blessed to have known him loved him. My personal goal is to honor his legacy by raising enough money to have an LLS-funded AML research grant in his name. In remembrance of William’s death, I hope to honor his name by bringing life and improving and enhancing the condition of others afflicted by blood cancer through this LLS-funded research grant.

Something big is about to happen, and I need you to join me in this journey to fight against blood cancers.  I will dedicate my time, energy, and resources to help continue the LLS fight against blood cancers. LLS is saving lives not someday, but today. Please join me today!

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
