Thank you so much for your interest in supporting LLS’s mission to cure blood cancer, not someday but today! Please note, online fundraising gifts made from this point forward will not impact the announcement of the 2013 local Man and Woman of the Year in Rhode Island, your donation will still greatly impact LLS’s mission.

Belle's Story

My Inspiration

I will never forget how I felt when I heard Belle's story. I was at the store on Facebook and like wildfire, posts flew up all over my newsfeed. I guess it shows you just how small Rhode Island is! As I sat reading her story, I cried, even though I had never met belle all I could think of was as a mother how could this be happening to this precious two year old. What if this was one of my children? I have a 2.5 year old son, this could be him one day!

Belle had become sick on Christmas with what her mother thought was just a stomach bug, when she didn't get better after five days she was brought into her pediatrician to see if it was more than just a bug. Her pediatrician immediately saw some bruising on her and sent them up to Hasbro Children's Hospital. After many test they finally dropped the bomb that Belle had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

She is currently undergoing treatment for the next 2.5 years. Belle will receive chemotherapy to ensure there is no risk of relapse. She’ll lose all of her hair and become more susceptible to infection than a newborn baby. She’ll receive spinal taps, platelet transfusions, chemo round after chemo round.

I believe she will beat this cancer because she is a fighter and live a happy and healthy life. Your donation to LLS helps new medical advances every day, and helps children like Belle get the treatment they need to beat leukemia.

Welcome to my Man & Woman of the Year home page!

Boy and Girl of the Year 2013 Hannah and Lamar

I have been lucky enough in my life not to be directly affected by a blood cancer or within my immediate family. However, throughout my time owning Gigi's Glitzy Boutique, I have had numerous customers who have had children battling Leukemia. I have always felt the urge to do something, to take the pain that these children and their families feel away. I unfortunately cannot do that, but raising money for LLS can help make what these families go through a little easier. The money raised helps to not only find cures for these rare blood cancers, it also helps fund programs for the families of the children/adults battling cancer. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, everyone in his or her family is affected. This holds especially true when it is a child.

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Every dollar I raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most votes /raises the most money is named the Man or Woman of the Year.

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

LLS's continued advancements over the years are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org

Thank you,

Angela Stanley
