Welcome to Randi Kaefer's MWOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 25, 2018

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign for Man & Woman of the Year.

In 2008, my family and I heard the words no one wants to ever hear: "you have cancer”. With a 10 month old baby girl and husband of only 2 years by my side, I knew my only option was to win my battle. Your world forever changes as you begin to learn about blood work, bone marrow biopsies, port-a-cath, SED rates, radiation, chemo, the list goes on and on. While I hadn't expected to be planning my daughter's first birthday party during my first round of chemo therapy, that's what life threw at me and I was going to fight it head on. I experienced most of the side effects you hear about, while I didn't complain about the weight loss and the loss of apetite,  the unusual sense of taste and sores in my mouth were a bit to be desired. The hair loss was less traumatic since my 1 year old thought slapping my bald head was better than any toy, I didn't mind so much. After the first 2 months I began to learn how my body would react to chemo and I was able to predict when the good and bad days would fall. I learnt very quickly to make the most out of the days that I had energy and felt good.

After 6 months of chemo that had its ups and downs, a month of a daily radiation, scans and some patience, I was officially cancer free on October 23rd 2009. I know my recovery was in no small part due to the research and advancements in treatments funded by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). In support of an organization that saved my life, my family and I have embarked on numerous fundraising campaigns to help LLS find a cure for blood cancers. We ran half-marathons throughout the country, hosted charity events, and even hosted bake sales and lemonade stands to raise the funds needed. But now our biggest fundraising effort is about to begin...

I have been nominated as a 2018 Woman of The Year candidate for LLS! This is a nationwide ten-week fundraising 'competition' that lasts from March 26 - June 9. I am joined by a team of family & friends called Team #GameChanger, and we are asking for your help to achieve our lofty goal of $150,000!

For every dollar raised I get a 'vote' toward winning the tittle of "Woman of The Year," but more importantly, every last dollar goes directly to LLS to fund their efforts in providing better trearments and care for blood cancer patients, which ultimately means....a cure!

As you know, though, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

2017 was a hystoric year - the FDA approved 18 new treatment options for blood cancer patients who urgently need them. What's more, LLS played a role in virtually all of these advancements. You may have heard of the breakthrough in cancer treatment, CAR-T-Call Immunotherapy. LLS provided $40 million in funding for more than 15 researchers and companies around the world to develop this revolutionary approach to treating cancer.

Many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

Here are some of the ways you can help be a #GameChanger in the face of cancer.

*  Direct donation –  Click on the "Donate Now" button to the right to make a direct donation.  All donations are 100% tax deductible.  LLS's Tax ID# is 13-5644916.

*  An auction item or raffle donation – We will be holding several events with raffle items as well as placing items for auction on Charity Buzz.  A private meal or event with any celebrity you happen to know?  Personal or company’s tickets to a sporting event?  Any ideas you have are extremely welcome.

*  Corporate Sponsorhip – Place a company ad in the Grand Finale Program Book, buy a company table at the Grand Finale, or become a sponsor of the Grand Finale.  If your company can support us in any of these very generous ways, let us know.

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thank you for your continued support!

We are sorry donations are no longer being accepted for this participant for this event.
