Welcome to Michelle Kuhn's MWOY Fundraising Page!

I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”

 ~William Penn

A patient would always carry in his wallet this quote. It is something I reflect upon daily as I think about my purpose and how I can positively impact the lives of oncology patients.

Who knew that a college-aged girl working at a hospital information desk, arranging rides for families of Blood & Marrow Transplant patients, would one day find herself running for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year?!

It was just over 18 years ago I started working at the information desk of The James Cancer Hospital. After working in the James lobby, I started working as an Office Associate for the Outpatient Hematology & Transplant Clinic. I was fortunate enough to meet the son, the patient, of a family I met when I worked as a student. We formed a unique bond that I will never forget. Meeting him changed my life.

Although I wasn’t a nurse at the time I worked in the clinic, it was there that I learned my life’s passion. I knew I had always wanted to work in healthcare, but I hadn’t found my place, just yet. As I was worked in the clinic, I developed relationships with the patients and their families and I watched the nurses provide such compassionate care. It was watching the nurses, meeting the patients and families, that I realized my calling: to become a nurse, a cancer nurse.

Since becoming a nurse, I have focused my energy and passion on doing the right thing for the patients, supporting them as they battle something I have witnessed take the lives of so many wonderful, caring, loving individuals. I have focused on supporting our nurses, encouraging and empowering them to provide the best, quality care for our patients. I have focused on doing good now.

My passion strengthened last year when my aunt was diagnosed

with Stage 3 Follicular Lymphoma.

It certainly is one thing to be an oncology nurse and be committed to oncology patients and the mission of The James and The LLS, but you can imagine how this changes with a diagnosis of a family member of whom I love and respect deeply.

I now have the distinct privilege of calling on my community – my friends, my family, and my colleagues – to not only support blood cancer patients, but all cancer patients. Many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers.

Blood cancer is now “in my blood” – and I need your help to defeat it!

If my team and I are able to reach our goal, we will be eligible to link our name with cutting-edge LLS-funded research!! WE could be funding research that will find the cure to my aunt’s cancer!  Every dollar we raise counts as one vote for my team's candidate. The candidate whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of "Man or Woman of the Year".

There are several individuals to whom I dedicate this campaign: Adam M, Sandy R, Rose S, Suzanne K, Randy, Ed N, Bob, Joe G, Marguerite B, Bucky E, Dennis M, Andy G, Jenell S,Todd F, Vikki P, Tina M; family friends, Mike C & Sam U; high school classmate, Matt H; and my aunt, Julie.

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign for Man & Woman of the Year. Please consider sharing my website with friends who would also like to donate!

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
