My Reason for Running

Feb 20, 2019

Welcome to the 2019 Man and Woman of the year campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  I am Lindsay Jacques and I am running for Woman of the Year, in honor of the many patients who are faced with blood cancer, each and every day.  I have the honor to work alongside hundreds of caregivers at the Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center, and serve each and every individual who chooses to receive care from our team.

When I am in the oncology clinics and on the inpatient units interacting with the physicians, nurses, patients and families, there are so many emotions I feel.  I see physicians and nurses pouring all of their energy into caring for each person and working to find the perfect treatment plan to give them the best outcome.  I see patients and families scared for what the next step is, and also relieved at times with the information they received. I choose each and every day to walk into our cancer center to serve these individuals, feel what they are feeling, and hold my head high to be part of their support system.

When I think about my life and everything that keeps me busy throughout the day and evening, I can't even imagine what it would be like to manage that load along with fighting cancer.  As a healthcare professional I work to make sure we are eliminating barriers and providing every possible support option to patients with cancer.

I have been touched by cancer in many ways that has shaped who I am as an individual.  The biggest impact for me was when I was a senior in high school and both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer.  I am the oldest of three, and had to grow up in ways I did not know was possible at that age. I am privileged to say that both of my parents beat their cancer, and have been able to watch me get married, as well as be an active grandparent to both of their grandchildren.

Not all families are as fortunate as I was, which is why I am choosing to raise money for more research to occur, so that more families can have the outcome that my family has experienced.

I have made the decision to run in this campaign to push for more clinical trials, and better treatment options for blood cancers, and all patients facing cancer.  We cannot get to these new novel treatment options without the support of our community.  80% of the funds raised in this campaign go to research to improve and expand treatment options.

I ask you to stand with me to help make a difference in cancer research and support to patients through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Please consider donating as you able towards this cause. The link is attached below. Every dollar contribution makes a difference. Thank you for your consideration, and support.

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign for Man & Woman of the Year.

I have joined a team that is driven to find cures for blood cancer. Our team is working to raise as much as possible over the next 10 weeks. Every dollar we raise counts as one vote for my team's candidate. The candidate whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of "Man or Woman of the Year".

As you know, though, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

Many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
