Welcome to Martin Alvarez's MWOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 09, 2018

It was early September of 2017, I was approached by a very dear friend of mine in which I have the utmost respect, Mark McIntosh (aka Mac) former LLS “Man of the Year.” Mac asked me if I would consider being a candidate for the 2018 “Man of the Year.” I have to admit, my initial reaction was...There is no way I can pull this off, with my current responsibilities of being Editor-in-Chief of a magazine and CEO of a marketing and branding firm, I already felt overwhelmed.

However, as irony would have it, a change of events occurred just one week later. A very close friend of mine and treasured colleague, Jordan Alvarez, told me that his beloved brother Daniel had just been diagnosed with Leukemia (the most aggressive form). Now Daniel isn’t just any ordinary guy, when diagnosed he was 38 years of age and “as strong as an ox!” He is an avid athlete and revered swim coach, anyone who is aquatinted with Daniel couldn’t possibly believe that he had an illness of any sort, let alone a total body cancer!

It was then, that the gravity and full weight of cancer slapped me right in the face! Cancer is completely non-discriminatory (it doesn’t pick and choose) it can happen to any one of us at any time on any given day.

My purpose was clear, I knew that I had to do something…

The words of my friend Mac kept ringing loud and clear in my head, “You got this, I know you’re the perfect candidate!” So I decided to accept the prestigious nomination and go for being “Man of the Year” 2018.

Ultimately, my “Big Why” is to help raise awareness for all types of blood related illnesses. As I learned more about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I became aware that their research and objectives are helping raise cures for all types of other illnesses, not just leukemia and lymphoma. No doubt we have all been affect in one way or another by cancer, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Parkinson’s, and the list goes on and on. All of these diseases are being more clearly understood because of the research that is being done by LLS. It is for this reason, that I am a passionate champion for their cause and am willing to be a leader to help others to gain awareness for this fight against blood related diseases!

How Can You Help in My Crusade to “Put Leukemia Out of Business?”

Your Donation Can Make a Difference!

·         A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.

·         A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.

·         A donation of $1,000 makes possible one-on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

THANK YOU for your generosity! With your help, we can give hope to those who fight the tough challenges of blood cancer every day.

We are sorry donations are no longer being accepted for this participant for this event.
