Welcome to Joe Miller's MWOY Fundraising Page!

Apr 27, 2018

My name is Joe Miller. For the last six weeks I have been raising money as a candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year challenge.   The Man & Woman of the Year campaign spans 10 weeks, culminating on May 19 with a celebration of the man and woman who has raised the most money during the campaign.  The funds raised throughout the campaign supports LLS’ mission of funding research that not only seeks to cure blood cancer, but that also results in life-saving treatments for other cancers including brain cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, and prostate cancer, just to name a few.  I hope you will join me in supporting my campaign—it’s easy…donate, offer in-kind donations, volunteer or just bid on my silent auction items (link to be provided shortly)!!!

My mission is personal, my aunt died of blood cancer, and many of my family and friends have been stricken with other devastating cancers. Admittedly, when I agrees to be a candidate for Man of the Year, I didn't fully understand the level of commitment it would require of me - but I knew the platform I had was unique and regardless of the amount of money I raised, I knew I could at the very least spread the word about the importance of LLS' mission, especially given my position as a sports talk radio show host on Madison's CBS affiliate (96.7 FM/1670 AM). My show - the Joe & Ebo Show airs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and we have been promoting the campaign on our station and on our show every single day. Because of the unique platform, NBC 15 has covered our campaign as has Madison's channel 57. Their support has been so meaningful, but yours is even more important to me...

Our campaign has been…non-traditional…

·  Burger King sponsored my campaign by donating $5 to me to eat one chicken nugget for every point the Denver Nuggets scored against the Milwaukee Bucks during their April 1, 2018 match-up.  The game went into overtime.  The Nuggets scored 128 points.  In a period of four hours, I ate 68 chicken nuggets—Burger King took pity and still matched the Nuggets’ score!

·  I told my listeners that if they donated $200 in an hour, I would forever refer to a “veggie burger” as a “real burger” over my objections!  They did.  I now consider a veggie burger the most burgerest of all burgers.

·  I told my listeners if they donated $400 in one hour I would wear Cubs and Cardinals gear to our live broadcast at Miller Park on opening day.  They did.  I wouldn’t say that my life was threatened, but let’s just say it didn’t go over well…

·  My co-host, Ebo, wore a dog shock collar and for each donation he, um, received a shock in the corresponding degree of the donation.

·  Ebo and I hosted a celebrity sports night and silent auction—Badgers players, coaches, Wisconsin Olympic athletes and current NFL players attended.  They supported our cause not just because they remain steadfast members of our community, but because they believe in LLS’ mission.

·  Ebo and I hosted a 28-hour radiothon.  We interviewed Alex Lasry, Bonnie Blair, and other Wisconsin sports’ greats but most importantly, we interviewed Anyka, an 8 year-old blood cancer survivor and one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.  Learning from her and from her experience was emotional.  Meeting her was alone worth the sleep deprivation.

But the campaign is far from over.  We have until May 19, 2018 to raise even more money for LLS.  I didn’t know how personally invested I would become in this campaign when I first began, but now all I want is to raise as much money as I possibly can for LLS and its mission.  I hope you will join me.  I am all in.  I hope you will be too.

All donations—large and small—are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my website often and make sure you tell your friends to donate too!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org

We are sorry donations are no longer being accepted for this participant for this event.
