Welcome to Bruce Spann's MWOY All Star Alumni Fundraising Page!

Apr 18, 2018

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign for Man & Woman of the Year.

How few sometimes are the degrees of separation among us.

My relationship with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society began in January 2010.  While making travel arrangements for my son and I to attend the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, I was also listening to the late Eric Von’s Urban Talk Radio Program discussing the radio station was among the sponsors of a blood drive for a child that the family was hopeful to help find a bone marrow match.  I was already on the Marrow Donor Registry, but I wanted to support the Blood Drive in the heart of Urban Milwaukee.  A few weeks later I hear Eric on the Talk Radio Program inform the listening audience the child had lost her battle to blood cancer.  Wow, I am planning a trip of a lifetime and this family is planning a home going service for their child.

In 2011 one of my co-workers shares that she is supporting a friend raising money for LLS in their Man Woman of the Year Campaign.  Turns out her friend is Ptosha Davis LeFlore, the mother of Jori Lauren LeFlore from the 2010 blood drive.  I decide to support Ptosha and she is the 2011 Woman of the Year Winner from Wisconsin.  In 2012, I was asked by Ptosha and LLS staff to run for Man of the Year.  During my campaign, I learn that the wife of another co-worker is a nurse at Children’s Hospital and was one of the nurses taking care of Jori.  I was not the Man of the Year Winner, but LLS won anyway from the money raised during my campaign.

Then, I was invited and accepted being a member of the Board of Directors of LLS.  It has been a privilege and an honor to serve.  My six-year commitment will end July 2018 and I can think of no better way to close this chapter of my support to LLS than to run as the First All Star Candidate to represent Milwaukee, Wisconsin to raise money for LLS in the Man and Woman of the Year Campaign for 2018!  All Star Candidates are those men and women that have run before from across the United States.  I have formed a team of close friends and past candidates, including Ptosha to help me raise money that will help to find cures for blood cancer.  Each year the Women raise money on behalf of an honorary boy and the Men for an honorary girl.  How few sometimes are the degrees of separation among us; one of my supporters this year recently tested negative for blood cancer and this year’s honorary girl is Lauren (Jori’s middle name).  Our team is working to raise as much as possible over the 10-week campaign and I pray and hope to raise enough money, so we may name a research grant Jori Lauren LeFlore…

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org

We are sorry donations are no longer being accepted for this participant for this event.
